Magnificat plans ‘prayer tea’ Sept. 25

WAVERLY (SNR) – Magnificat of Lincoln will host its first “prayer tea” event Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly.

Magnificat is a ministry to Catholic women, a private association of the faithful within the Catholic Church under the jurisdiction of the Lincoln Diocese. It started as a prayer meal for 200 Catholic women in 1981 in New Orleans and has become an international ministry spreading across the world with chapters currently located in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Malta, Poland and Africa.

Magnificat of Lincoln, the Morningstar Chapter, was approved by Bishop Bruskewitz and held its first prayer breakfast in 1996.

“We are excited to try a new format – Sunday afternoon – at a new location – Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House,” said coordinator Rhonda Litt. “There will be refreshments with desserts, everything else will remain the same: prayer, a teaching by our spiritual advisor, praise and worship, and testimony.”

The testimony will be by speaker Sister Mary Nika of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. She became a member of the order in 2019 and professed her first vows Aug. 6. The charism of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ is a call to witness to the Gospel, to seek to draw all people into a personal relationship with Jesus through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

Participants are urged to register early as seating is limited.

Magnificat will also sponsor a retreat, “Honey in the Rock: Finding God In All Things” Sept. 23-25 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House. It will be led by Sister Mary Nika and Sister Marguerite Marie. Registration for that event is available at www.goodcounselretreat.org.

To attend the Sept. 25 prayer tea, mail a $15 check (the student price is $10) payable to Magnificat by Sept. 17: c/o Tina Colgan, 521 N. 56th St., Lincoln, NE 68504. Pre-paid registrations only, no walk-ins. Those with questions may contact Litt at 402-525-6396.

The primary purpose of Magnificat is to help Christian women become more open to the Holy Spirit through a deeper commitment of their lives to Jesus as Lord and to impart the Holy Spirit to one another by their love, service and sharing the good news of salvation.
