Scotland’s Lagg Distillery will soon release their three inaugural single malt batches, starting with Batch 1 this month.
On the south end of the Isle of Arran, Lagg’s distillery team is putting the finishing touches on the fruits of several years of labor.
Distillery Manager Graham Omand said that he and his team have “poured into making our Lagg Single Malt the robust, complex and earthy west-coast style that we hope you’ll get to know and love.”
The Lagg Distillery and its visitor center was established in 2019, and the whisky brand has since worked to create a heavily peated, modern single malt Scotch whisky, Omand said.
A statement from the distillery notes that for the inaugural releases, the team used Concerto malted barley, water from their own borehole, and peat from Aberdeenshire which gives the gentle, aromatic, woody smoke to the spirit of Lagg.
Omand worked as a stillman at Lochranza Distillery at the north end of Arran for several years learning from his uncle, former Lochranza Master Distiller James MacTaggart. He gained the knowledge and experience to oversee Lagg Distillery’s construction and to lead a brand-new team in the south of Arran.
“It’s every stillman’s dream to be given such an amazing opportunity to manage a beautiful site like Lagg,” Omand said. “I’m going to make sure it’s a legacy that I’ll be proud to say I helped build. We are delighted to finally announce the very first inaugural single malt releases from Lagg.”
