Boston woman accused of pouring beer on MBTA bus driver, spitting and biting transit police

An MBTA bus driver had quite the wild ride. Transit Police say a woman poured beer over the driver’s head and fled — only to later allegedly spit at an arresting officer and then spit and bite others during the booking process.

Transit police responded to the bus at the coroner of Columbia Road and Washington Street in Dorchester at around 10 p.m. Tuesday and got the lowdown on a departed “disorderly group” from the bus driver.

According to the police, a woman poured beer over the driver’s head and a male member of the group kicked a window hard enough for spiderweb cracks to form before they left.

When police tracked down the pair based on the driver’s descriptions, Shatia Butler, 24, of Boston allegedly resisted being placed in the transport vehicle and tried to keep the doors from closing and spit in the face of an arresting officer, according to a Transit police statement.

When she arrived at Transit Police headquarters, Butler allegedly continued to resist the booking process, during which police say she both spit at and bit other officers. She is charged with assault and battery on an MBTA employee, four counts of assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Transit police say that she was wanted on several warrants for larceny out of Brockton District Court, Boston Municipal Court and Dedham District Court.

Police say the 16-year-old boy accused of damaging the window was compliant and was released to his guardian ahead of a future summons to court for malicious destruction of property charge.
