Lockdown Lifesavers: Reviewing businesses operating safely under Covid restrictions

Stuff has launched an online directory of local businesses safely delivering throughout lockdown. Want to treat yourself or nominate a business, click here.

If you’re a ‘beer and eye fillet’ kinda lockdowner, Stuff’s directory is going to fill your cup. Equally, if you’re like me, a ‘single girl living in a bubble of one so would like to know where the treats are at’ you’re covered.

Below is a review of great New Zealand companies that have lifted my spirits and made the first week of lockdown that much more bearable while I rattle around the house.

The company? Black Pineapple Co.

What do they do? Top quality cocktails made with the finest ingredients delivered to your doorstep just in time for the weekend

Cocktail hour is now a thing for my long-suffering instagram followers who are pretty much exposed to my every waking lockdown moment (lucky) but there’s only so much you can do with a 12-year-old bottle of Kahlua and an equally-aged bottle of feijoa vodka.

Who wouldn’t want a cocktail delivered to their door right now?

Black Pineapple’s cocktails took me straight to those distant memories of wild bars and sunkissed holidays. Their cocktail kits include everything you need to make four to 12 top-quality cocktails.

Surprise yourself with their constantly greatest hit box (Black Pineapple Bangers), modern twists on the classics – or their ‘always-on’ Espresso Martini.

Next week features the East 8 Hold Up – a vodka, aperol and fresh pineapple concoction. I spent week one sipping on a rhubarb and Pineau des Charentes ‘Rap-Sody’ complete with freeze dried lemon and rhubarb garnish alongside cacao nib and blood orange negronis. (Black Pineapple has given me faith that negronis can actually taste good).

Strong, indulgent and beautifully boxed; I actually couldn’t think of a better gift to receive during lockdown. (Pull out the crystal, fill the ice cube trays)

Final word: Check out their limited edition Father’s Day gift boxes if you have a man in your life who deserves a treat (hello pear and walnut old-fashioned).

Where do they deliver? Nationwide
