EAST TAWAS – The 12th annual Tawas Uncork’d Wine, Ale and Food Festival will be presented this Saturday, Aug. 7, by the Friends of the East Tawas Library.

The event was cancelled last year due to COVID-19, but organizers have picked up right where they left off and are bringing back a festival that is on par with those held previously – which the huge crowds of attendees have come to know and love. Along with live music, a 50/50 raffle and a handful of food vendors, this will include 15 wineries and 10 breweries.

The festival will go on from noon to 6 p.m. in East Tawas Harbor Park, located near the intersection of US-23 and Newman Street.

Jasmine Tubbs is the other event co-chair, and the committee members are Patty Phillips and Aimee O’Connor.

Ladley says that festival goers can pay for their admission on site the day of the event, or they can opt to purchase tickets ahead of time from Brew Krew, located at 211 Newman St. in downtown East Tawas.

While attendees enjoy the wide selection of Michigan beer, wines, ciders and food, they will also be supporting a good cause, since the event is a fundraiser for the East Tawas Library.

In addition to the food and drink options, Tawas Uncork’d will also feature live musical entertainment for the duration of the event, by Ted Wasilewski.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, as well, for which Ladley says the cost is either $1 per ticket, six tickets for $5 or 15 for $10.

Further, a children’s area will be set up adjacent to the event tent, where books will be available for the youngsters.

As reported, Tawas Uncork’d began as a fundraiser for the construction of a new library, which was built in 2016 and is adjoined to the East Tawas Community Center on Newman Street.

The events held since then have been used to help with a range of other needs, including furnishing and sustaining the new library, introducing additional events, enhancing the existing programs offered by the library and supporting literacy in the local area.
