Wine, pop take a spill after vehicle hits Sanford gas station

Wine and soda that were shelved on the wall of a Sanford Shell Station, 2738 N. Meridian Road, took a spill Monday around 7:30 p.m. after a vehicle crashed into the convenience store that partners with a McDonald’s restaurant.

Forward Corporation Marketing Director Jason Wolverton said the collision loosened four blocks in the building. On the other side of the blocks was a wall where wine and two litters of soda. He said there were no injuries and the store closed for a bit for staff to clean up.

“There was a fair amount of wine,” Wolverton said.

According to the Midland County Sheriff’s department, the driver is OK. The driver hit the Shell half of the building after attempting to park at the gas station. The impact caused “functional” damage to the vehicle and building.

An accident report has been completed and closed.

Sanford resident Brian Patrick witnessed the accident.

“I was standing one parking space over facing him when he hit the wall,” Patrick said. “Everyone was OK. But I did crack up after he slowly backed out of the building, got out of the vehicle, and looked at the front end of the jeep. Stone face and serious, not looking at the building he just demolished, but the front end of the car that now has a unique shape to it.

The man reportedly said to Patrick, “I’ll probably need a crowbar to get that out, do you have a crowbar?”

Patrick said, “I think you have bigger issues than needing a crowbar right now, sir.”
